Controversial television
After all the controversial complaints about UK televisions big brother there seems to be no end to controversy this week in the television news. This week the Big Brother fiasco continues with Channel 4 also doing what they do best and upsetting more people (my favorite terrestrial television channel by far) and Top Gear proves its lost none of its spark by upsetting people. 2007 Must See Television Programs By admin Published: January 27, 2007
2007 Must See Television Programs 2007 looks set to be a great year for television programming so I thought I would put together a list of programs I think that are must watch for this year. Sopranos season 7: Predicted to be the final season of the Sopranos and if it keeps up the momentum from season 6 we will be in for a bloody good ride. Many people are predicting an all out war between New Jersey and New York and after the tension that has built up so well from season 6 it seems inevitable. Other possible plots to unfold would be Carmela finding out that Adriana hasn't disappeared and how she was murdered. Unfortunately there isn't any information as to when the Sopranos season 7 will begin although it is believed to be sometime in 2007 and is one to watch out for on your television screens. 24 season 6: Season 6 of 24 has already begun (in the USA anyway) and having already seen the first 5 episodes this is something to watch out for on your television screens. It has spurred a bit of TV controversy in America due to it depicting Muslims as extremist terrorists which Fox who was put under pressure by Islamic groups got Kiefer Sutherland who plays Jack Bauer to read the following disclaimer before airing the show. "Hi. My name is Kiefer Sutherland. And I play counter-terrorist agent Jack Bauer on Fox's 24. I would like to take a moment to talk to you about something that I think is very important. Now while terrorism is obviously one of the most critical challenges facing our nation and the world, it is important to recognize that the American Muslim community stands firmly beside their fellow Americans in denouncing and resisting all forms of terrorism. So in watching 24, please, bear that in mind." All the controversy aside (although I expect more when it is shown in the UK dues to its suicide bombing scene on the LA subway) it has to be said it has so far been a well executed program with brilliant production and acting. Also the tension and plot builds at a very watchable pace leaving you wanting and waiting in anticipation for the next episode. Even better if you have a high definition television for the action scenes 24 season 6 is one program not to be missed in 2007. Stargate SG-1 Season 10: Ok season 10 of Stargate SG-1 started in 2006 but as it runs into 2007 I'll let it in, Stargate is obviously not to everyone's tastes being a Sci Fi program, but I actually enjoy it so its allowed in lol. Like the Sopranos season 10 of Stargate is apparently going to be the last series they make, although many theory's that it may continue with Cameron Mitchell (Ben Browder) and Claudia Black (Vala Mal Doran) both of whom stared together in the cult series Farscape Other ideas is that Stargate will return to the movie screens with its current cast, other theory's flip this on its head saying that any Stargate movie will return to its original cast so who knows what will happen. Whatever the case Stargate SG-1 makes it into my 2007 television programs to see as the story line is involving a good hours entertainment, also its a Sci Fi tv program that is accessible to those of us who are too "techy". Top Gear Season Season 9: The 9th incarnation of the "new style" Top Gear comes to us having nearly losing presenter Richard Hammond in a 288mph jet car crash during filming, many people tried calling for the end to the show and its stunts, but for once the BBC has done the right thing and kept the popular car show on our television screens. So Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and the other one will return, expect much of the same well written, excellent camera work and production values that we have become accustom to. As normal 3 middelaged men messing about like 5 year olds with cars is always entertaining and makes it into my must watch TV list for 2007. Top Gear is on BBC2 on Sundays here in the UK and I believe is on BBC America in the USA. Ugly Betty Season 1: Over night Ugly Betty has become a smash hit on television in the USA and UK, personally I think it is one of the funniest television programs to come out of america in a long time and one to watch (although it may not be to everyone's taste. More programs? Obviously 2007 has only just begun so I will update this list when I find something else that I think is worthy of entering the must watch television series of the year, also once the forum is up and running you can pitch for programs you believe should also be included in this list. Quick televison weekend update By admin Published: January 27, 2007
Televison Weekend Update
Only a quick cheap televison update to let you all know that the tv discussion board is almost ready to be implemented and should be live over the weekend (if not tomorrow it'll be Sunday). We have also thought of some more category to use for the cheap televison board that should hopefully be interesting and more importantly useful, but I will save that for a later date. We have been a little bit slack this week and unfortunately haven't had too much time to add new more televison to the site although we will make up for this next week as a lot of prices have dropped in due to the post christmas televison sales. Also many manufacturers have updated there televison ranges so there are many new televison models on the market including the likes of the Sony Bravia LCD tv range. See said it would just be a very quick cheap televison update, but before I go and if you are in the UK don't forget that Top Gear returns to televison screen this weekend, its been a long wait, but I bet its been worth if ;).
With Richard Hammond describing his 288mph cars crash amoungst other things it should be some entertain televison, aparently "the presenters decide that the appalling state of British roads has become too much to bear, so they decide to take matters into their own hands and resurface a stretch of road themselves". As a big Top Gear fan I'll do a little review after its on televison on Sunday.

TV Theft By admin Published: January 24, 2007
TV TheftDue to demand on the black market and the price of televisions they are still the most likely item to be stolen during a house burglary. This is even more apparent from a technique we have found thief's using to target people with large flat panel LCD and plasma TV's. The method they are using is searching houses for sale on property websites such as rightmove, here they view the images of the properties looking for televisions to steal (take a quick look on rightmove and you will see what I mean with peoples flat panel TV's on display for everyone to see). Once they have found the target they either just look at the location on the map link, or phone the estate agents and ask which address it is. It actually gets even easier for would be TV thief's than being able to see what flat panel TV's people have and where they are located as many adverts on the likes of rightmove also show floor plans letting them plan the TV theft with even more ease. This happened to one of my neighbours who is selling his house a few months back, saying that the thief wasn't all that clever when stealing the LCD TV he had on his wall as they ripped his LCD TV off the wall bracket. The wall bracket snapped and they left a foot print on his wall where they was trying to get some leverage. We had a laugh about this as all they had to do was lift it up and it would have come off the bracket holding the LCD TV against the wall lol. Unfortunately its hard to think of a way apart from asking the estate agent not to photograph your TV to protect yourself from being targeted in this way, if you are selling your house/flat as you do want to show your property in the best possible light. Also if you are being offered a seriously cheap LCD TV or any type of electrical goods that are unusually cheap you might want to think about where they have come from in the first place as there is unfortunately a large amount of stolen TV's currently on the market. LCD -V- Plasma Glare!!! By admin Published: January 23, 2007
LCD -V- Plasma Glare!!! I was round my friends a couple of weeks ago I went round one of my mates I haven't seen for a few months and he started showing me his new television. Knowing about my cheap television site he wanted to know what I thought about it. He has brought a 32 inch Sony Bravia LCD television (the KDL32V2000U model to be exact).
The first thing I said to him was why did you buy a LCD television instead of a plasma?? I tend to ask everyone this 1: out of curiosity and 2: I actually prefer plasma televisions for reasons I will go into deeper at a later time (here goes the whole LCD V plasma debate lol). I was expecting the normal, "LCD's are better aint they" or "plasma televisions can explode" and the usual nonsense, but he actually replied because it doesn't glare like a plasma!
I can't see anything on my TVAfter my initial err this isn't the normal reply I asked him how he came to that conclusion, he said it was simple. He went on and explained when he was standing in the local electronics retailer the sun made a rare appearance and the glare was unbearable on the plasma television, but the LCD was clearer (not great, but much better compared to the plasma). His living room has a south facing bay window and his television is put on his east wall, although this isn't too much of a problem during the winter but once the summer arrives it is obvious this will be an issue.
This television glare is something that I am aware of but as the bay window in my flat is north facing coupled with the fact I am working during the day (think the only time I watch TV during the day is if the football or F1 are on at weekends with the first normally being viewed at some kind of drinking establishment) this has never really been something I have considered in the argument between which is best out of LCD and Plasma televisions. Depending on watching habits and where you locate your television this really is something that could swing the balance between which type you purchase, see not everything when deciding on which type to buy is based on technology sometimes the surroundings can make a huge impact.
After the conversation with my friend I started thinking to myself why has this glaring issue never been as obviously apparent as it seems, after thinking about it which didn't take long to realize that is was the shop he brought his Sony Bravia television from. The shop is local to us and privately owned, and although it is pretty big for a privately run business the shop doesn't go back that far which in turn means all his LCD and Plasma televisions face south towards the sun. Ever wondered why shops like Curry's etc in the high street always have the televisions at the rear of there premises? Well there's your answer to make them more appealing and to also show off there best image quality they always keep the flat panel televisions well away from the glare of the sun.
Glass Screen or Bouncy ScreenFor those who have never compared LCD against plasma and have no idea what I'm blabbering on about I'll explain in simple terms. A plasma television has a glass screen (basically the same as a old type CRT tv) which suffers pretty bad from sun glare. LCD televisions have a soft bouncy feel to the screen and have a matted appearance when turned off compared to the plasmas glossy finish which is reasonable for the glare.
Anyway I think this rant on cheap television blog has gone on long enough, don't forget the moral though when considering whether to purchase a LCD or Plasma television you need to take more into consideration than just what technology is better and a huge part of that is the environment you are going to house your brand new flat panel television.

Cheap Televisions Blog By admin Published: January 23, 2007
Television BlogWe thought it would be a good idea to start our television blog, the idea is we will be able to use the blog for our TV reviews and opinions, as well as a more offbeat approach to current televisions news here on Cheap Television. The other advantage of our blog is the news section often gets filled with press releases etc from the TV manufacturers, normally saying things like our Plasma televisions are better than someone else's or use BLU-RAY instead or HD-DVD etc etc. The other good prospect for this new section is you can tell us our opinions about any of our articles or even write your own reviews as the blog allows users to add comments etc about our articles. We have got to update the site to allow this user interaction, but it is pretty straight forward and hopefully we will implement the discussion board at the same time (should be this week or the next).
Home Entertainment CommunityWe are still trying to work out what sections the discussion board should comprise of, so far we have thought of these: General television discussion Plasma Televisions LCD Televisions DVD and accessories User set ups (so our users can show off there home entertainment systems) User reviews (to allow users to review televisions they have brought and to also let others know about shop and manufacturer customer service (which we think is highly important when purchasing and owning a television which are expensive). We think (and hope) that this should be enough to be helpful and usable to everyone who visits Cheap Television although if you think we should change or add something please let us know as building a consumer community is hard we want to have the best start we can get.
