Jeremy Paxman calls for TV licence axe
Well for once a voice joins in the call for an end to the TV licence that would be hard to predict especially as Jeremy Paxman re portably earns around £1 million a year from the BBC. Anyway the host of Newnight and University Challenge has fired a welcome shot at the BBC saying the TV licence belongs in the 1950's!
Jeremy Paxman was speaking about the TV licence at the Edinburgh TV Festival saying "The idea of a tax on the ownership of a TV belongs in the 1950s. Why not tax people for owning a washing machine to fund the manufacture of Persil?”
“It’s one empty slogan after another. One BBC, Making It Happen, Creative Futures, they all blur into one. I speak as the presenter of a programme which was obliged this spring to follow an hour devoted to celebrity dog walking.”
