Eastenders Dirty Den reincarnation a mistake
Those of you who remember the rather stupid storyline in Eastenders 5 years ago when the producers decided to reincarnate Dirty Den will be glad to know Eastenders executive producer Diederick Santer has admitted it was a mistake. Dirty Den who was played by Leslie Grantham returned to Albert Square in 2002 after he had been killed many years before!
Diederick Santer said "There was a phase in EastEnders when it became too accelerated and a bit unbelievable. The return of Dirty Den in 2002 says it all. He was dead. You can't bring him back. It's a Bobby Ewing in the shower moment. It undermined the show and did lasting damage."
"Two or three years ago the show lost Shane Richie, Jessie Wallace, Kacey Ainsworth and Letitia Dean. They were the heart of the show. It can't be underestimated what a challenge it was to have those characters move at once. I think we're still recovering."
Before anyone gets annoyed with Eastenders executive producer Diederick Santer he wasn't responsible for the Dirty Den storyline, nor his son and daughter partaking in a dodgy relationship etc. The BBC have brought him in to try and win back viewers after viewing figures for the long running and painful to watch soap fell to 3.9 million.
I'm still not going to watch it as the storylines still look stupid, watch Skins on Channel 4 instead much more entertaining and probably more realistic.
