Ali G and Borat are retired.
Sacha Baron Cohan the comedian and creator of the Ali G and Borat characters has said he will never play either of them again. Sacha claims that he is retiring them as they have become too popular too catch people out with. Botch characters were originally on Channel as small sketches and both were subsequently moved from the small screen and on to the big screen each getting there own films. This leaves just one character left from the TV show to be made into a film in the form of Bruno the Gay German fashion reporter.
Sacha Baron Cohan said of retiring Ali G and Borat "It is like saying goodbye to a loved one. It is hard, and the problem with success, although it’s fantastic, is that every new person who sees the Borat movie is one less person I can ‘get’ again. But the success has been great, better than anything I dreamed of. When I was being Ali G and Borat I was in character sometimes 14 hours a day, and I came to love them, so admitting I am never going to play them again is a sad thing.”
