Cheap televisions thinks this LG 42PT353K 42 inch Widescreen television is one of the best bargain 42 inch plasma TVs currently available for under £400. It comes with built in Freeview and like most LG TV screens has one of the best frame designs of any televisions currently being sold and 600Hz technology. For a 42 inch full HD LED / LCD television with the same features and a probably less impressive picture would be twice as expensive.

Reviews wise the LG 42PT353K HD 42 Inch Plasma TV has very good customer reviews on Amazon with a rating of 5 out of 5 stars and one review saying: “Brilliant stuff from LG here. I love it when you purchase a product and there is absolutely nothing you can complain about. I haven’t exactly ‘tested’ everything such as the HD picture or all the inputs. But the picture quality is so great from standard freeview, I’m sure it’ll be fantastic. For this price I don’t think you can do better than this television. Another thing I really appreciate about this TV is the menu. It’s beautiful to look at with good usability. Other manufacturers can learn from this. Here’s a few pictures of LGs flagship 60 inch 3D plasma TV the 60PX990 which at around £2,000 which cheap, but you do get an awful lot of television for your money. Cheap televisions has always been a big fan of big LG plasma TVs because of their very good performance at a reasonable price point.

Best Cheap Television Of The Year?

2009 is coming to an end and cheap televisions keeps seeing numerous sites doing their “best of the year” awards. So we thought we’d join the party and have a best cheap television of the year award type thing. It would be easy to choose something very cheap but we wanted something that performs and offers a lot of value and features. So what is Cheap Televisions best value TV of the year? Well its not a cheap lcd tv instead we went for big screen, big on features, with a small price tag to finance it and picked a 50 inch plasma TV. Yup the cheap televisions best value TV of the year goes to the LG 50PS7000.

LG 50PS7000 Best Cheap Television Of The Year

The LG 50PS7000 plasma television can be brought for around £880 and I know its HD ready brothers like the 50PQ6000 are much cheaper but this is about value. The LG 50PS7000 has many options and calibration controls to play around with. Full HD playback for Sky HD and Blu-ray DVD movies. And well its just gorgeous to look at.

Performance wise you can get better but like most things in life you have to pay to get it. For example the Pioneer PDPLX5090 which are considered one of the best 50 inch plasma televisions money can buy will easily set you back around £2,000. That’s more than double the price and the picture on the LG 50PS7000 isn’t exactly twice as bad as the Pioneers. It would be nice if the LG black levels were closer to the Pioneer but this is a cheap television and can easily be forgiven for its one flaw.

The sound quality of the LG 50PS7000 plasma television is also right up there. I love the invisible speakers that all the LG plasma models have and the performance is top notch. Yes a home cinema surround sound system always sounds better for movies but not all of us can have our televisions at those kind of levels.

I personally thought LG would at least sell one 32 inch plasma television in the UK but I am mistaken. Still sure they do make one or used to. The most popular size plasma screens they make are 50 with 6 models. Probably also worth noting they dont make any full HD 42 inch plasma TVs and no HD Ready 60 inch monsters. The plasma televisions made by LG are:

The plasma TV category has been suffering a little bit on cheap televisions recently mainly down to the massive offensive from LCD TV manufacturers at the moment. So to equalize the balance back a little bit here is the best selling plasma television over at amazon.co.uk at the moment. The Panasonic TX-P42G10B. I’m going to try and find some stores that are either doing special deals on or offering this television much cheaper than amazon (£711.00 with free shipping).

Currys has a special offer on seven televisions at the moment which are online only deals which gives you free delivery on any of the televisions in the offer. Free delivery is always welcome as some companies can turn a cheap television into a not so affordable one just with an excessive delivery charge. There is a mix of both big screen plasma televisions and LCD TVs of which the Sony Bravia ones come with a free 3 year guarantee included.

One thing to keep in mind about the Currys special offers and Currys in general is that although they are the online company of Dixons sometime their prices vary dramatically. For example Currys are advertising the LG 32LH3000 32 inch LCD TV for what they say is a good deal at £399.00 but if you search on google for that television model you get results from Dixons selling it £30 cheaper! The you obviously have the competition to consider too.

USA 42 inch TVs under $500.

We don’t often do consumer advice on the best cheap televisions for our friends over in the USA. Mainly because they have different TV model names and because I live in the UK. Anyway one of our favourite blogs CrunchGear.com has recently done an article on two TV deals for 42 inch televisions (one Insignia LCD and one Panasonic Plasma) both under $500.

Panasonic VIERA 42 Inch 720p Plasma HDTV

They are both on sale at Best buy but as the original article mentions be careful of shipping costs as they add $70 on top of the final price (pick up from the store if you can).

The televisions in questions are the Panasonic – VIERA / 42″ Class / 720p / 600Hz / Plasma HDTV which has pretty much 5 out of 5 stars on all the reviews on the Best Buy website including one saying: “After weeks and weeks of comparing LCD and plasma, I saw this price for 42 inches and couldn’t pass it up. Couldn’t be happier with the product. Have not got the HD connected yet, but honestly I have never had HD before and the picture on this seems closer to HD than regular. Unlike the LCD’s which give you extremely bright color, this TV actually looks realistic and I love it. If you are hesitant about getting a plasma, don’t be, the prices are too good to pass up and the picture is incredibly refined. And with the money you save buying a plasma, you could pick up an inexpensive surround sound if needed.”

The Insignia is a 42 inch LCD television which comes with full HD 1080p resolution. The model was Insignia® – 42″ Class / 1080p / 60Hz / LCD HDTV but just as I’m writing this I’ve noticed its gone back up to full price ?. Ok maybe we’ll get lucky and they’ll drop it down to the sub $500 price again soon!

Tesco TV Brands(LCD & Plasma).

The brands of cheap TVs sold by Tesco may seem like a strange post but I’ve personally never heard of televisions made by Nordmende, Technika or UMC before (cheap television wants your user reviews on these please)! Tesco does sell the major brands of LCD and Plasma TVs as one would expect along with some refurbished bargain televisions so here’s the full list of what Tesco offer.

Tesco Televisions

Technika

This appears the be Tescos home brand of televisions which is a bit annoying as cheap televisions can’t really track down much more information about who builds the panels. I’d expect they would be cheap and Chinese though. The Technika televisions for sale on Tesco are the Technika 40″ HD Ready 1080P LCD TV with Freeview 40-920, the Technika 32″ HD Ready LCD TV with built-in Freeview & DVD Player 32-310, the Technika 32″ HD Ready 1080p LCD TV with built-in Freeview 32-250, the Technika 32″ HD Ready LCD TV with built-in Freeview LCD32-209/209V, the Technika 26″ HD Ready LCD TV with built-in Freeview & DVD Player 26-310, the Technika 26″ HD Ready 1080P Slim LCD TV with Freeview 26-920, the Technika 22″ HD Ready LCD TV with built-in Freeview, DVD player & iPod Dock 22-218 and finally the Technika 19″ HD Ready LCD TV with USB Record built in DVD & Freeview 19-220.

Nordmende

Like Technika I’ve never heard of Nordmende televisions before looking on the Tesco electronics website but it appears this is a seperate television manufacturer altogether. Tesco only one Nordmende television Nordmende 32″ HD Ready LCD TV with built-in Freeview NU323LD. Looking at the Nordmende website it appears to be confused as to if the company is Irish or German (Bremen to be precise). The website states:

“NordMende is a range of high quality audio visual and white goods available in the island of Ireland. Owned by the KAL Group, the new NordMende brand was officially launched in their Dublin based headquarters in August 2008 and attended by Ireland’s Minister for Finance, Brian Lenihan. With the strap line Home Economics, the brand stands for well-designed, higher than average specification products at affordable prices. The NordMende name originates from Germany where NordMende was a manufacturer of entertainment electronics based in the city of Bremen. It is still recognised as a brand name associated with audio/visual products throughout the world but is perhaps now best known in Ireland thanks to the KAL Group.”

UMC

Again another odd sounding television company with no website that I can find and only one television in the Tesco store. It is a very cheap television but comes in the rather strange size of 23″. It is only £199 so a dirt cheap deal. Its called the UMC 23″ HD Ready 1080P LCD TV with built-in Freeview X23/39.

The rest of the televisions sold by Tesco are the usual LCD and plasma panel suspects really. LG, Panasonic, Philips, Samsung, Sharp, Sony and Toshiba. Just be careful with the warrantys Tesco offer on their television as they are not free like the brilliant John Lewis 5 year ones and can add upto £350 onto your final bill. I know Tesco is normally cheaper than other supermarkets but when buying a television you may want to visit your local Waitrose / John Lewis just to duoble cheap you are getting the best deal.

Just been digging around the internet and have come across some of the best selling televisions at the moment according to Dixons. There’s actually some good cheap televisions amongst this lot of over 43 inch TVs especially the LG 50PS3000 which is a very good cheap bargain for a 50 inch television. The best selling 3 TV’s over 43″ at Dixons are the LG 50PS3000 50″ 1080p Plasma TV, the Panasonic TX-P50G10 50″ 1080p Plasma TV and the Samsung UE46B7000 46″ 1080p LED Backlight TV.

LG 50PS3000 Is It The Best Cheap 50 Inch Plasma Television

The LG 50PS3000 is only £694.12 @ Dixons at the moment and for a good 50 inch plasma television is a bit of a bargain. You could probably find it even cheaper at some of the smaller or online only retailers. A quick mention about Samsung, I just found out they were apparently told by advertising standards not to market their LCD televisions as LED TVs and if they want to shout about LED’s they must describe the televisions as LED Backlight.

One thing to keep in mind is that there maybe some bargains coming in the January sales but please remember that VAT goes back up to 17.5% in January.

Looking for a cheap 50 inch plasma television for around £700.00 then cheap televisions may have found the answer with this very attractive 50PQ2000 plasma television from LG currently on sale at Argos for £699.99. Philips offer free delivey and free gift box.

Seems Philips are trying to get potential customers to use their online store in the run up to Christmas by having deals offering free (which is always better than cheap) delivery on any purchase over £50 and a free gift box. Cheap televisions isn’t sure if the free gift box is available for Philips LCD and plasma TVs but their site does say its now available on men’s shaving products and intimate massagers! When did Philips start doing those?
