Sony Television

While updating some of out listings for cheap televisions I noticed something about the types of Sony television available that I (and probably only me) found interesting. They have totally phased out all other types of Sony television like CRT and plasma models, the plasma decision is no surprise to my self as they have always leaned towards LCD technology in recent years.

The only types of Sony television now available are LCD, rear projection and projection the later we'll completely dismiss from this article altogether as its not a TV in the traditional sense of the word really. This leaves the other two which Sony television sell under the Bravia banner which obviously mean every Sony television is a Bravia.

The rear projection Sony television sets are something that I don't like when it comes to Sony's often misleading but obviously highly effective marketing (look how well know they have made Bravia in a short space of time). The reason being is they try selling some of the rear projection Sony television using the term 3LCD now the reason I think this is completely misleading is people have enough trouble telling the difference between LCD and Plasma set talk about what a 3LCD is. Most consumers will assume it is a LCD in the normal usage of the word whereas unless used in the right environment even the new type rear projection tv's are no match for plasma and LCD TV sets.

Sony television did play around with plasma's for a while, but for some unknown reason turned they're back on them at least here in Europe (please leave a comment if you can still get them in America). The Bravia type Sony television is pretty good for a LCD TV yet once it gets to larger screen sizes it has trouble keeping up with a cheaper plasma equivalent. One of the other problems with consumers is the whole Bravia marketing (actually Sony marketing in general), as with any well know brand for some reason people will buy a Bravia TV instead of a LG / Hitachi which is much better just because it is a Sony television. Seriously I think people should consider TV's on there individual merits rather than paying for a brand like a Sony television, its easy enough to pull a badge off a TV anyway lol.
