Family Guy general information

Family Guy is an American animated television series about a nuclear family in the suburb of Quahog (IPA [kowh?g] or [kowh?g]), Rhode Island. It was created by Seth MacFarlane for FOX in 1999.

Family Guy's humor is famous, or even sometimes infamous, for its use of non sequiturs, usually in the form of flashbacks. The show was cancelled once in 2000 and again in 2002, but strong DVD sales and the large viewership of reruns on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim convinced FOX to resume the show in 2005. It is the first canceled show to be resurrected based on DVD sales.

Creator Seth MacFarlane voices many of the characters (Peter, Brian, Stewie, Glenn Quagmire, Tom Tucker, and others), and works as a gag writer. Other voice actors include Mila Kunis (Meg Griffin), Seth Green (Chris Griffin), Alex Borstein (Lois, Tricia Takanawa, Loretta Brown), Mike Henry (Cleveland, Cleveland Jr, Performance Artist, Herbert, and Greased-up Deaf Guy), and Patrick Warburton (Joe Swanson). Lacey Chabert voiced Meg Griffin for the first production season (14 episodes); however, because of a contractual agreement, she was never credited, and FOX has never officially acknowledged that she was ever the voice of Meg.

Family Guy Characters

Peter Lowenbrau Griffin – Peter is 42 years old, born in the month of July. He is of mainly Irish heritage, with some ancestors of varied heritage, including black, hispanic and Hutt. Peter is a large, extremely idiotic man, who often gets into bad situations, which are only made worse as he tries to get out of them. Husband to Lois, father to Meg, Chris, Stewie and Bertram, and technically the owner of Brian.

Lois Pewterschmidt Griffin – Lois is 40 years old. Born into the wealthy Pewterschmidt family, Lois gave up her inheritance in order to marry Peter, but she is still careful about keeping up appearances in front of others and often gets miffed at Peter's lack of cultural sophistication, as well as his idiotic but well-meaning schemes. Lois teaches piano in order to supplement the family's income, although she spends most of her time caring for her family.

Megan "Meg" Griffin – A sixteen (seventeen by the fourth season) -year-old daughter of Peter and Lois. Meg spends her time worrying about fitting in with others her age at her school (James Woods Regional High School), where she is a junior until the 4th season, in which she is a senior, and tries hard to find acceptance. Meg has become a scapegoat for many cruel jokes about her looks, mannerisms, and general existence. In the 4th season episode "Don't Make Me Over" she lost her virginity to Jimmy Fallon Saturday Night Live.

Christopher Cross "Chris" Griffin – thirteen (fourteen by the fourth season) -year-old idiot savant son of Peter and Lois. He is not very intelligent, and is overweight like his father, although he has a tremendous talent for drawing. He may have inherited his father's stupidity. He seems to be the only character dumber than his father. He is the only child whose paternity has never been questioned (though he was born due to a broken condom, according to his baby book). Some viewers mistakenly think that Chris is older than Meg because he is slightly taller.

Stewart Gilligan "Stewie" Griffin - One-year-old son of Peter and Lois, who inexplicably has an English accent. Stewie is an incredibly intelligent person, and harbors ambitions to take over the world, but more importantly to kill Lois. Thus far his plans have been foiled by those around him who don't take him seriously. Brian (the dog) is the only one in the show who can hear him 100% of the time and actually takes him seriously, so they often end up pairing off.

Brian Griffin - Seven-year-old alcoholic dog of the Griffins, Brian may be described as the Griffin family's talking dog, but he is more accurately described as a dog who chooses to live with them. He is called Brian Griffin only because he lives with and was adopted by the Griffin family. His real name is simply "Brian". While he exhibits some "typical" dog behaviors, he can speak intelligently, drive a car (although he is unable to pump his own gas), walk bipedally, and has a sharp wit. Peter is his best friend, despite Brian being much more intelligent than him, although in recent episodes he's been paired with Stewie far more than Peter. In Season 5, Brian has a girlfriend named Jillian. She looks very good, but is also very dumb.
