If anyone could tell me exactly just when Toshiba became such a big player in the cheap small LCD TV game I would really like to know. If someone knows and has some time a guest blog post would be possible! Cello Cheap 3D Televisions

Director of Cello Brian Palmer said: “Initially I was unsure about the future of 3D, but the quality of 3D vision now available and the number of new 3D films coming onto the market this year guarantees success for this new technology. Not exactly feature rich, however this cheap Technika television on sale at Tesco does come with a built in DVD player and Freeview. It’s HD ready and also has 1 HDMI, 1 Scart and 1 USB connection all for under £100!

2: Amazon – £80.00 – Digihome LED16913HD 16 inch HD Ready LED TV

At £80.00 you really knock this Digihome television being sold by Amazon, ok it doesn’t have a built in DVD player like the Technika but is £16 cheaper. Although being a very cheap bargain it does have very mixed reviews on Amazon so check before buying.

3: Argos – £89.99 – Alba 16 Inch HD Ready LED TV

Another 16 inch television this time made by Alba and being sold by Argos. Yes it is a seriously ugly TV set in this hot pink colour but don’t worry as Argos do sell the same model in black (yes Argos needs to employ better photographers as we can see the reflection too). Apart from that we have little info about this Alba TV apart from a warning on the Argos page saying “This TV will not work with digital signals in the Republic of Ireland, you will require a digital set top box or satellite source ”

4: Currys – £59.97 – C15DVDB10 15.6″ HD Ready LCD TV with Built-in DVD Player

Built in Freeview and DVD player! We really have no idea how Currys are selling it for such a cheap price. Hell even if this little LCD TV has bad sound and ok picture quality it’s still a bargain! 1 of each of the usual connectors but no reviews online for this essentials C15DVDB10 television. The cheapest TV in the UK?

The most expensive television in this list of bargain TVs is the Goodmans LD1613 LCD TV which another 16 inch model. Although the most expensive it doesn’t seem to have any better features that the others in this list. Reviews wise it’s no better than the others with a few issues about Freeview reception.

Design wise the PHILIPS BDP3200 Blu-ray player is a slim line design and looks as good as any slightly shiney black box that you’ll hide away in your home entertainment system ever will. I still don’t understand why DVD and Blu-ray players need to be so big though. The technology exists to make them much smaller and I guess it would be just as cheap to do so!

The The PHILIPS BDP3200 Blu-ray player comes with all the features you would expect like 1080p full HD playback and 24fps processing. Old DVDs get the now normal upscalling treatment to help give your DVD collection a new lease of life. Obviously the Philips BDP3200 Blu-ray player has HDMI connections as well as Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD MA available for HD 7.1 surround sound.

Another cool feature of the Philips BDP3200 Blu-ray player is if you connect it to the internet you can watch YouTube videos on your HD television without the need for a PC or laptop.

Is Currys The Cheapest place To Buy?

One of the problems with the Currys stores is they’re not always the best for value (although they do offer convenience). So I’ve hunted around online to see who else is selling the BDP3200 Blu-ray DVD player from Philips to see if Currys is selling it for the cheapest price and if not where you can get the best deal for it.

Obviously you might be able to find the Philips BDP3200 Blu-ray DVD player cheaper than the two online stores I’ve listed above but I’m sticking to those that are pretty reputable. So you can get it cheaper but £3 for the convenience of walking into the shop and walking straight out with your new Blu-ray player and the ability to return it should you have any problems, Currys price is actually pretty cheap.

Philips BDP3200 Blu-ray Player Reviews

Ok time for some reviews of the Philips BDP3200 Blu-ray player and the only ones I could find were user reviews on the Asda website which gives it 5 out of 5 stars. There are only two reviews of the Philips BDP3200 Blu-ray player on there which isn’t great as we always always like the biggest sample of reviewers possible. Anyway one of the reviews says:

“A well packaged well featured player for an incredibly reasonable price. The onscreen menu system is very easy to understand and follow, I was over the moon to find the USB section allowed playback of movies from my portable 250 gig hard drive as well as my Flash Drives. The picture quality and sound from this unit is superb no complaints at all. The remote control is well laid out for ease of use, All in all this is a superb buy if you are looking for a player with the extra bonus of a USB connection this is for you.”

Save Money On Your Television

1. Cancel your Sky TV or Virgin Media subscription! I know it sounds like the end of the world especially when more of us are spending more time at home in front of the television rather than going out. However cancelling your TV subscription or just reducing to a lower package is the biggest way of cutting your annual television bill. The monthly price of the Sky+ with Variety Pack is £19.50 so cancelling this and changing to Freesat or Freeview would save you £234 a year! Obviously if you have a bigger Sky TV package like the Entertainment Pack or Sky World your savings would be even higher! I put my money where my mouth is and cancelled my Sky Entertainment package so now only have Freesat and I can honestly say apart from the odd TV show here and there I haven’t really noticed the change, but have noticed the extra money in my pocket. Not strictly television related but if you are on a bundle deal just make sure you are also getting the cheapest broadband and phone deal that they offer, my broadband with Sky was £12.50 a month until I phoned up and switched to the new deal which is £10 for exactly the same service saving an extra £30 a year.

2. Stop leaving your television and home entertainment equipment on standby. Ok so we all know this but start doing it and reduce your energy costs for running your television. Don’t just turn your television off at the plug when you have finished watching television but unplug any devices you’re not using whilst watching your TV. Most of us have a host of home entertainment equipment plugged into the same extension lead as our televisions, so if you’re not using the stereo, home cinema surround sound, Xbox, Playstaion or whatever, unplug it.

3. Stop watching television! Ok this sounds a bit odd but stick with me. I previously mentioned in another cheap television blog post about computers, laptops and tablets becoming more popular than televisions. So if you’re using one of these turn your television off. I recently went round a friends and he was sitting looking at Facebook on his laptop with Radio 2 on in the background and for some odd reason his 42 inch plasma TV was on (muted). Lots of people do the same though, like making dinner, having a bath, putting the kids to bed etc, if you’re not watching your television try to turn it off and again save some more cash.

4. Stop buying DVD and BluRay movies. Think do you really need to add another movie to your collection that will sit in your DVD rack gathering dust? Let’s be honest how many of use watch a movie over and over again on our televisions? Ok Die Hard and Apocalypse Now may be a couple of exceptions, but really we normally only watch a DVD movie a couple of times at the most. So be a bit more picky with the movies you do buy or wait until the sales come along (but don’t just buy DVDs in the sale because they are cheap). Also if you’re a LoveFilm member ask yourself if you really use it, cancelling your membership is another easy way to save cash.
