Tesco Technika 32-56 32 inch LCD TV

Tesco have recently been promoting their big price drop, a marketing campaign to tempt us with cheaper prices in the run up to Christmas. The good news is Tesco have decided to include several Technika LCD televisions in this new promotion, we at Cheap Televisions like to find the best television deals so here is the largest Technika LCD television included in the promotion, the Technika 32-56 32 inch LCD HD Ready TV.

The Technika 32-56 32″ television has been reduced from £199.99 to £179.10 by Tesco. It is HD Ready 720p rather than 1080p but at the 32″ size the difference in picture quality isn’t going to be terribly noticeable like on a large 50″ plasma TV for example.

Connectivity wise the Technika 32-56 LCD TV has the expected slots to plug in a range of home entertainment equipment, including 3 HDMI sockets, a single SCART socket and a USB port. So it could easily accommodate a HD games console, Sky HD box, Blu-Ray DVD player and a surround sound system for example.

Even before Tesco launched the price drop deal on televisions the Technika 32-56 32″ LCD TV was one of their best selling cheap LCD televisions.

The Technika 32-56 LCD television currently boasts 236 customer reviews on the Tesco website with an average score of 9 out of 10 which is rather spectacular for what is a very cheap TV. Cheap Tesco Technika 40-270 LCD Television

The Technika 40-270 is the second largest Technika LCD television that Tesco sell. At just £299 in the UK (cheap televisions is not sure if it is available in Ireland?) is a very cheap 40 inch television (and the cheapest over 37″ LCD screen Tesco sell by some margin). The specification and features for the 40-270 include built in Freeview, 3 HDMI connections and full 1080p HD.

Obviously price wise the Technika 40-270 40″ LCD TV is a real bargain deal, but we worry that it is possibly too cheap! We would love to get out hands on one from Tesco to test it and do a review to see if a cheap price means low picture, sound and build quality.

If you are planning on buying a Technika 40-270 40″ LCD television from Tesco we would recommend putting it next to a similar sized TV made by a more mainstream LCD manufacturer like LG, Samsung, Sony or Panasonic. Using the same input material (Freeview or DVD) and see what the actual difference in picture quality is. We’re not sure if Tesco would do this in their stores but if someone from Tesco wants to get in touch with Cheap Televisions to let us know it’s be most helpful.

Even though the Technika LCD 40-270 40″ HD television is cheap it still does come with the usual 1 year manufacturer’s warranty and Tesco do offer an extended 3 year warranty at an extra cost.

On Reevoo the reviews of the Technika 40-270 television has a perfect 10 out of 10 score. We would really take this with a pinch of salt as many of the reviews have no text and those that do just state the Technika 40-270 LCD TV is great value for money (which is obvious anyway). 5 LCD Televisions For Under £100

Below we have put together a list of 5 of the cheapest televisions being sold in the UK today from Tesco, Amazon, Argos, Currys and Comet. All of these TVs are pretty small by todays standards with none being over 16 inches (does anyone else remember sitting with their family around a 14 inch CRT TV in the 80′s?). You do get what you pay for in the world of home cinema, but for a cheap television to go in a bedroom, kitchen or even a shed these televisions really are a bargain.

1: Tesco – £96.00 – Technika 16-850 15.6 inch LCD TV with built in DVD and Freeview

Not exactly feature rich, however this cheap Technika television on sale at Tesco does come with a built in DVD player and Freeview. It’s HD ready and also has 1 HDMI, 1 Scart and 1 USB connection all for under £100!

2: Amazon – £80.00 – Digihome LED16913HD 16 inch HD Ready LED TV

At £80.00 you really knock this Digihome television being sold by Amazon, ok it doesn’t have a built in DVD player like the Technika but is £16 cheaper. Although being a very cheap bargain it does have very mixed reviews on Amazon so check before buying.

3: Argos – £89.99 – Alba 16 Inch HD Ready LED TV

Another 16 inch television this time made by Alba and being sold by Argos. Yes it is a seriously ugly TV set in this hot pink colour but don’t worry as Argos do sell the same model in black (yes Argos needs to employ better photographers as we can see the reflection too). Apart from that we have little info about this Alba TV apart from a warning on the Argos page saying “This TV will not work with digital signals in the Republic of Ireland, you will require a digital set top box or satellite source ”

4: Currys – £59.97 – C15DVDB10 15.6″ HD Ready LCD TV with Built-in DVD Player

Built in Freeview and DVD player! We really have no idea how Currys are selling it for such a cheap price. Hell even if this little LCD TV has bad sound and ok picture quality it’s still a bargain! 1 of each of the usual connectors but no reviews online for this essentials C15DVDB10 television. The cheapest TV in the UK?

5: Comet – £99.99 – Goodmans LD1613 16″ LCD TV

The most expensive television in this list of bargain TVs is the Goodmans LD1613 LCD TV which another 16 inch model. Although the most expensive it doesn’t seem to have any better features that the others in this list. Reviews wise it’s no better than the others with a few issues about Freeview reception.

Thought we would take a look at what the 5 cheapest LCD televisions that are available from supermarket giant Tesco this Christmas. Although none of these Tesco bargain televisions would serve the average person as a main TV screen for everyday viewing, movie watching and game playing they are perfect for a child’s bedroom or to put in the kitchen. Stating the obvious these Technika branded televisions aren’t exactly feature rich and the picture quality won’t be up there with the Sony Bravia and Panasonic LCD TVs currently on the market but they are cheap as chips and some even come with built in DVD players.

So without further ado here are the 5 cheapest LCD TVs you can currently buy at Tesco:

1: Technika 15.4″ HD Ready LCD TV with built-in Freeview 15.4-310 @ £100.00

From Tesco: This Technika 15.4″ HD Ready LCD TV with built-in Freeview has a 200cd/m2 brightness with a 400:1 contrast ratio and 1280 x 800 resolution. A 10 page teletext is included and the CI slot-capability allows you to receive selected Pay TV channels. This Technika TV has inputs – HDMI, SCART, PC, TV antenna and component. It is suitable for wall-mounting.

2: Technika 19-919 19″ HD Ready LCD TVwith built in Freeview @ £120.00

Tesco description: This Technika 19-919 19″ HD ready LCD TV has built-in Freeview. It has a 7 day electronic programme guide, NICAM stereo and HDMI, SCART & DVI inputs.

3: Technika 19-915 19″ HD Ready LCD TV with built in Freeview @ £150.00

From Tesco: The Technika 19-915 19″ HD Ready LCD TV with built-in Freeview is a stylish LCD TV that should will look good in the corner of your living room. The Technika 19-915 has excellent picture quality as a result of high resolution. The TV has teletext and a headphone socket enabling you to listen to the TV without disturbing anyone else.

4: Technika 19-228 18.5″ HD Ready LCD TV with built-in Freeview & DVD @ £165.00

Tesco Description: The Technika 19-228 HD ready LCD TV comes with built-in Freeview and a USB player and a built-in DVD player. The Technika 19-228 has CI slot capability to subscribe to selected PayTV channels. The 18.5″ screen has a picture frequency of 50Hz and a 1000:1 contrast ratio. The 19-228 is also wall mountable.

5: Technika 18.5″ HD Ready Digital LCD TV with DVD Player and USB Player @ £165.00

Tesco says: This Technika 18.5″ 720p HD LCD TV has a built-in digital decoder, giving you free and instant access to a wide range of HD TV and radio stations via Freeview. This TV also includes a USB port for recording your favourite TV shows and a built-in DVD player.

So there you are 5 LCD televisions for under £165 all of which are HD ready and some even come with inbuilt DVD players which are a bit of a bargain. If you are planning on using any of these cheap televisions as your main TV I’d recommend trying to save up for something a little better. It’ll be worth it in the long run and you will notice the difference in both picture and build quality. For a television just to go in a kids bedroom or similar though, these will make a fine cheap Christmas present.

The brands of cheap TVs sold by Tesco may seem like a strange post but I’ve personally never heard of televisions made by Nordmende, Technika or UMC before (cheap television wants your user reviews on these please)! Tesco does sell the major brands of LCD and Plasma TVs as one would expect along with some refurbished bargain televisions so here’s the full list of what Tesco offer.

Technika

This appears the be Tescos home brand of televisions which is a bit annoying as cheap televisions can’t really track down much more information about who builds the panels. I’d expect they would be cheap and Chinese though. The Technika televisions for sale on Tesco are the Technika 40″ HD Ready 1080P LCD TV with Freeview 40-920, the Technika 32″ HD Ready LCD TV with built-in Freeview & DVD Player 32-310, the Technika 32″ HD Ready 1080p LCD TV with built-in Freeview 32-250, the Technika 32″ HD Ready LCD TV with built-in Freeview LCD32-209/209V, the Technika 26″ HD Ready LCD TV with built-in Freeview & DVD Player 26-310, the Technika 26″ HD Ready 1080P Slim LCD TV with Freeview 26-920, the Technika 22″ HD Ready LCD TV with built-in Freeview, DVD player & iPod Dock 22-218 and finally the Technika 19″ HD Ready LCD TV with USB Record built in DVD & Freeview 19-220.

Nordmende

Like Technika I’ve never heard of Nordmende televisions before looking on the Tesco electronics website but it appears this is a seperate television manufacturer altogether. Tesco only one Nordmende television Nordmende 32″ HD Ready LCD TV with built-in Freeview NU323LD. Looking at the Nordmende website it appears to be confused as to if the company is Irish or German (Bremen to be precise). The website states:

“NordMende is a range of high quality audio visual and white goods available in the island of Ireland. Owned by the KAL Group, the new NordMende brand was officially launched in their Dublin based headquarters in August 2008 and attended by Ireland’s Minister for Finance, Brian Lenihan. With the strap line Home Economics, the brand stands for well-designed, higher than average specification products at affordable prices. The NordMende name originates from Germany where NordMende was a manufacturer of entertainment electronics based in the city of Bremen. It is still recognised as a brand name associated with audio/visual products throughout the world but is perhaps now best known in Ireland thanks to the KAL Group.”

UMC

Again another odd sounding television company with no website that I can find and only one television in the Tesco store. It is a very cheap television but comes in the rather strange size of 23″. It is only £199 so a dirt cheap deal. Its called the UMC 23″ HD Ready 1080P LCD TV with built-in Freeview X23/39.

The rest of the televisions sold by Tesco are the usual LCD and plasma panel suspects really. LG, Panasonic, Philips, Samsung, Sharp, Sony and Toshiba. Just be careful with the warrantys Tesco offer on their television as they are not free like the brilliant John Lewis 5 year ones and can add upto £350 onto your final bill. I know Tesco is normally cheaper than other supermarkets but when buying a television you may want to visit your local Waitrose / John Lewis just to duoble cheap you are getting the best deal.
