Description
Tell us a bit about the process. How long does a typical illustration take to draw and what techniques do you use?
Actually yes! There is a line on my blog that says “slow fashion is always the best fashion”. So for people who do not know anything about me, that could be a hint. I like ‘slow fashion’. Mr Slowboy is a London-based Chinese artist with a difference. His distinctive illustrated characters are widely admired for their style, humour and ability to project the London aesthetic, by wearing a mix of traditional and contemporary attire and accessories. I drew inspiration from all sort of visual sources, from the caricatures of Vanity Fair from late 19th century and Tintin of Hergé to Indian miniature paintings and Japanese Ukiyo-e as well as some influence from Chinese ink painting, but the initial idea of “Slowboy” was inspired and influenced by the “Ivy Boys” created by the great Japanese illustrator Mr Kazuo Hozumi, who also wrote the foreword to my recently published book “Mr Slowboy: Portraits of the Modern Gentleman”.
Provides unparalleled comfort and smoothness
Bolin Webb is delighted to have engaged Mr Slowboy to create a unique personality for razors in our popular R1 range. Our man has a strong sense of style and a “twinkle in his eye”. He is well-dressed, dapper and, of course, clean shaven! I draw some inspiration from Japanese illustrator Hozumi Kazuo, famous mens fashion illustrator renewedfor his work for Men’s Club magazine. I also like the old Vanity Fair magazine pictures and Indian miniature painting. Right, one can easily note that all of the illustrations have similar style in terms of the appearance of Mr Slowboy. He is a very specific character and you very often draw him. How did you come up with the idea of his look? The Mr Slowboy series is conceived and drawn by London-based artist Fei Wang. Slowboy. Fei has captured a distinctive style with a love for vintage aesthetics and nostalgia, topped with a playfully modern twist that feels unmistakably contemporary. In partnership with fashion illustrator Fei Wang, the range’s T-shirts don a legion of graphics depicting city bikers. On shades of navy, white and grey, the artist’s work, more regularly recognized under the moniker Mr. Slowboy, appears front and center on each design.
I’m a ‘retired’ ad man who loves illustration and men’s fashion. I’m now working as a freelance illustrator based in London. My work is mostly about well-dressed and jovial men. Moreover our couple goes religiously every Sunday to Merci, when they are in "Paeris, rivee dwoite". In closing, the collection serves up a series of bags, each of which is designed for the on-the-go. A 24-liter holdall can be attached to the front of the collaborative bike, as can a new wax city bag, which boasts brass hardware and leather trims. Elie looks good even when he wakes up, in his bathrobe, bought on rue de la paix in this great Maison that also makes his shirts. Our man dresses in wear topical to concourse exhibitions and car racing in Britain. He stands before the bonnet of the iconic Jaguar E-Type - a unique piece of automotive design and engineering. Timeless design recognised and admired the world over.

I worked in advertising as an Art Director and Creative Director for about 13 years. After achieving most of the desirable “goals” in the industry, I realised It wasn’t quite fun anymore and my true passion still lay in drawing.
Christophe scribbles his canvas sketches in Merci notebooks that he carries everywhere with him. He often strolls through the stationery department upstairs while his partner polishes her collection of corduroy pants from the eponymous brand and Rive Droite waist bags made of upcycled fabric. Paperboyo is an English photographer who has turned what once was a hobby into a full-time profession playing with perspective, history, and architecture. His travels have taken him to some of the world’s most stunning locations including New York, Rio de Janeiro, Dubai, and the moais of Easter Island.
Fox Brothers, the English woollen mill established in Somerset in 1772 is credited with being the originator of fine woollen and worsted flannels during the last century and is still said to produce the best in the world. According to style connoisseurs, when choosing flannel, “always be sure to ask for it (Fox) by name”. The atmosphere of the Boulevard Raspail is soft, soothed by the last sunrays of November, which illuminate Andrew’s and Elie's room.
It’s been my second time in Florence during Pitti but first time when I got in to the fair at Fortezza. And I always have my notebook with me now, so hopefully I won’t loose this one.
